One little finished project...

Next weekend, Son2, DIL and Granddaughter "A" will be visiting before they move away to Italy for 4 years. "A" is 3 1/2, but she will undoubtedly start losing her baby teeth while away. So Grammom (me!) made a little tooth fairy pillow for her parents to take on their journey.
I drew the pattern myself and the top curves are a little jagged, but then, teeth are not perfectly rounded, right?!

I did not want to stuff her too tightly as it might hinder the Tooth Fairy's ability to get little teeth out of the pocket. The pocket material is a leftover piece from the quilt I made for her when she was born. The pocket looks a bit large but you never know what wonderful treasures the tooth fairy may leave!
I am an absolute amatuer when it comes to embroidery so the little smile is a bit primitive and I was not successful in hiding my ending knot! LOL

The eyes were purchased from Kutz on etsy, here - http://www.etsy.com/shop/kutz?ga_search_query=kutz&ga_search_type=seller_usernames (sorry-not sure how to add a link!)

Anyway, almost finished with my other project for Little Miss A......more about that later. It was a busy weekend!

Happy Saturday!!

It is such a lovely morning here in WNC, a little frosty, but clear, crisp and beautiful! Birds singing everywhere.
My son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter "A" will be here visiting next weekend before they are off to further regions of the globe. I will be busy this weekend finishing stuffy toys for A. I will post pics when I am finished.

I am really enjoying finding new bloggy friends and reading their adventures. Thank you for finding me and reading my trials and adventures, meager as they are at this point. LOL I promise that once I get that new machine, there will be much more to talk about.

Enjoy your weekend dear friends!

Happy Days!!

My wonderful husband put a deposit down on a new Baby Lock sewing machine for little ole me!!! I am so excited. I have never had a machine that did anything more than a straight stitch and a zig zag!!
We pick it up in two weeks!! I am jumping up and down with excitement!!

Still here, floundering....

Well, I had good intentions when I said I would post daily. That was before life caught up with me. I have been having a bit of a rough week, mostly work related, so I thought it best to keep my grumpy old self away from blogging. I have at least taken the time to read what is new with all of you and I would like to say that you all have a way of lifting my spirits with your wonderful posts. I thank you for that!
For now, I will just sit quietly in the corner and continue reading your blogs and do my best to get my head out of the "Grump Dump"! LOL
Have a great day!

Today I was blessed with.....

A lovely day to go for a morning walk around our little neighborhood; The blue sky was spectacular!

This little creek and pond in background is right in our back yard. Lots of fish and a big turtle!

The creek, looking from the wooden bridge that takes you along the walking paths....We have a lot of "walkers" that utilize them well. Me too, now that the weather is improving!

I thought the ice formations on the overflow drain from the pond to the creek looked cool!

I love the way the bark looks on Crepe Myrtle trees. Could certainly use this for "crafting inspiration"!

Then hubby and I went to the movies. We saw True Grit and we really enjoyed it. I was quite young when I saw the original so I had a hard time making a comparison - which was ok with me!

Now we are planning a nice relaxing evening with homemade fish and chips and a nice cold beer to accompany dinner. Hope you all had a nice day as well.

(Sorry the pics are not spectacular - taken with my phone!)

Almost missed my chance.......

....to post my blessing of the day! *Gasp*

This morning I spent a few hours with my youngest son, and I would absolutely say that my children are a huge blessing to me. We of course had the usual speed bumps that go along with raising children and we all made mistakes along the way (parents included), but all in all, I can honestly say that they have all grown up to be wonderful human beings ~ loving, caring, respectful and responsible. I feel very fortunate to be their Mother. <3

More Blessings....

I said I would post daily about the blessings in my life, so here I am again ~

Today (& everyday!) I am thankful and feel very blessed to be married to the most wonderful man and my best friend. This November will be our 20th anniversary! Twenty years!!! Wow! He is the love of my life and supports me in whatever whim I seem to be going off on at any given moment. Well, I guess quietly shaking his head could be considered support! LOL

What are the best blessings in your life?

Wishing you all a wonderful Thursday!

I have been severely lagging.....

It has come to my attention that I seem to have trouble posting very often. I watched Julie & Julia last night (Great movie!) and as I watched Julie post on her blog almost obssessively - well ok, definitely obessessive - I realized that I rarely post anything at all. I seem to be stuck in a rut where if I did not have a new craft to show then I just did not post. I need to change this way of thinking. I started this blog to document not only my crafts but also my life's adventures. Even if my life is really not all that adventurous, I surely must have something to journal about. Right? (although my family has expressed their wishes to remain anonymous and out of the world wide web's spotlight!) I have never been much of a writer however I am an avid reader so I think I can get the hang of it quickly.

So let's see, where to start? I try to be an upbeat, happy person as much as possible. I figure if you smile on the outside, sooner or later it absorbs into the inside as well. If you go through life grumpy and complaining all the time then life is downright miserable. I refuse to give in and I try to enjoy life and view each day as a true gift from God.
But - (you knew that was coming, didn't you?) - our little family has had a few bumps over the past few months which has put a dent in my otherwise happy demeaner. We have our bouts of disfunctionality along with the rest of the human race and it seems to be killing my mood as well as my creativity lately. So! Time to get out of this funk and into the sunshiney happiness again!

Time to count my blessings ~ I vow to note and post about one blessing per day. (Sounds like a perfect project to start around Valentine's Day.)

My son (#2 of 3) and his little family are moving from Guam to Italy, however they get to stop in the states on their way. I will get some much needed quality time with our three year old granddaughter as well as my son and daughter in-law. This is certainly a good thing! He gives great hugs and I have missed him dearly and my daughter in-law is a jewel!

On a crafty note, I am just about finished with a little prezzie for a blogger friend and it will go in the mail tomorrow! Pics to follow after it has been received. I don't want to spoil her surprise! :o)

I hope everyone out there in blogger land is having a spectacular day!!

TTFN,
Dawn

A New Project....

I have decided to try my hand at mixed media fiber arts. I have always, always loved lots of color and texture so I think this will be a good fit for me. Plus, with mixed media, perfect little stitches are not really "required" so my imperfections will not stick out like a sore thumb! I will post my progress as I go along, but I cannot ruin a surprise for a fellow blogger, so pics will have to wait until all is done and received. Typically I don't like suspense but this time I am on the "surprise-er" side and not the "surprise-ee"! Tee Hee!

Rag Rug Happiness!

Well, I figure it's about time I posted the wonderful rag rugs that I received last week from Holly over at Hot Tea and Milk Chocolate. I participated in a "Pay it Forward" challenge that she had on her blog and this is what she sent me!!!

(I took the pics on a cloudy/rainy afternoon so please excuse the bad lighting.)
They are so beautiful and look lovely in our home. I absolutely love them!! The multi colored one is in our main bath and the blue edged one is in "my" bath. It feels so nice to step out of the shower onto a nice, squishy, thick comfy rug! (Our house is built on a concrete slab which makes the floor really cold in the winter!)

Holly, I hope to have your prezzie in the mail by the end of the next week. :o)

T-T-T-Tuesday...

I am still battling a combo of allergies and the tail end of a head cold, but I am doing my best to be in a good mood, so please bear with me. ;o)
Hubby and I had a wonderful time at the concert this weekend. It was so nice just to get away from all of the regular daily "stuff".
The weather here this weekend was absolutely gorgeous! So lovely that we went out and bought a motorcycle for hubby! He has had a bike or two in the past but always gave them up for various life reasons. He has many work-buddies that own bikes and he has been pineing away for one for a while.
                                                                            *drum roll please*

Here is my darlin with his new toy. He is one happy camper, let me tell ya!

Wishing you all long days and pleasant nights.
